New to Stonham Barns this year is a fantastic Children’s Festival being held for two days during the May half term week.
The ticket gives children a packed day of fun and creative workshop participation including a silent disco, puppet making, theatre, sports, music, art, circus skills and dance classes. An inflatable world will keep all ages busy with inflatable games and bouncing fun.
In addition to exploring new games, hobbies, crafts, tomfooleries, and kids and teens open mike, the festival will have some great demonstrations and performances from some amazingly talented artists and local arts providers.
There will also be gifts, books and clothes available to buy from a specially commissioned family and children’s market. Hot food options, picnic packs, ices and drinks available at the event and throughout the day.

Sunday 3rd June will be the main event of the weekend with the first ever Suffolk Mini Show for the public to come and enjoy the hundreds of Mini’s on display. Lots of exciting events are planned throughout the day but below is an idea of what you can expect.

Saturday 2 June – Summer Light – Glass Workshop
11am, 2pm, 4pm
National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art, Palace House, Newmarket, CB8 8EP
Participants are invited to create individual pieces with glass slides to take home. This event will explore ‘Summer Light’ and how the different colours in nature inspires artists. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, not recommended for children under 5.

Saturday 9 June to Sunday 10 June – Wool Weekend and All things Sheep
Kentwell Hall, High Street, Long Melford, C010 9BA
This is an exciting journey from sheep shearing to seeing the wool spun and in the traditional Tudor way, watch dyers and cloth being made.
The sheep shearer will be hard at work all day in the stable yard, shearing Kentwell’s rare breed Norfolk Horn Sheep. See Kentwell Hall for venue details.

Enjoy the Ring Quest trail around the Country Park and the Anglo-Saxon Village, see the huge spiders of Mirkwood and the dragon guarding its treasure. Complete the Quest to save Middle Earth! See the Hobbit Hole, meet Halbarad the Ranger and maybe try your hand at archery.

Inspire Suffolk’s Holiday Clubs are returning this February Half Term!
From £12 a day, our fun-packed clubs for 5-13 year olds offer your child/children the opportunity to take part in a variety of sports and crafts, with a big emphasis on having fun, keeping active and making new friends during the school holidays! We are now running extended days in Ipswich and Woodbridge (St Mary’s) with options from 8.30am – 5.30pm and will also have dance sessions with Ipswich School of Dancing in Ipswich and Woodbridge all week. All of our courses are inclusive of all children, including young people with disabilities and/or learning difficulties and will have dedicated coaches to adapt sessions for your child’s needs. Our Holiday Clubs will be in Ipswich, Woodbridge, Kesgrave, Bury St Edmunds, Hadleigh & Lowestoft, with Specialist Football and Goalkeeping camps in Ipswich too.

Thursday 15 June – Jungle Art with Chloe Dominique

Visit the Jungle during February half-term and get creative with some of our craziest plants.
Norwich University of the Arts graduate and illustration tutor at ‘Arts 4 Youth’, Chloe Dominique will provide all the materials and professional techniques to create marvellous masterpieces with the children. They’ll paint and draw cacti, succulents and carnivorous beasts, all with the strangest colours, spikes and shapes. “Children are empathetic, curious beings, who can see the beauty in the monstrous, which makes them perfect for viewing the world from a different perspective.” Chloe Dominique It’s not just for kids… Both adults and children will benefit by being taught to pay attention and notice the subtleties that gives a plant it’s unique characteristics. Observational drawing indulges natural curiosity and helps with concentration, relaxation and will quiet your mind from restless thoughts. Relax in Cafe Jungle whilst the kids get creative. Each painting or illustration is just £2.50.

Pennies From Heaven at Manning’s Amusement Park

Puzzle Rooms
Perfect for older children over half term. The Suffolk Food Hall is delighted to provide two enigmas: to Escape the Gamekeeper’s Bothy or solve the mystery of Prof Campbell’s disappearance. Our room challenges combine authentic props and unique Suffolk themes. Based in farm buildings at the Suffolk Food Hall, underneath the Orwell Bridge, the adventures encapsulate the heritage and farming background of the site and surrounding area and are suitable for ages 9 to 90.
