RSPB Minsmere | Suffolk

RSPB Minsmere is a great day out for everyone, young and old.

At Minsmere, you can enjoy family-friendly activities while discovering some of the UK’s rarest wildlife. Avocets, bearded tits, bitterns, and other birds can be seen in the coastal lagoons or on walks through the peaceful landscape. Occasionally an otter can be spotted in the reedbed pools if you’re lucky.

Minsmere’s varied landscapes make it an ideal spot to see how we manage and protect different habitats for the benefit of wildlife.

Wildlife at Minsmere

Famous for its wealth of wildlife, the reserve is a vital habitat for bitterns, marsh harriers, avocets and bearded tits. Summer highlights include nightingales, sand martins, stone curlews and butterflies, while in winter the meres fill with geese, swans and ducks.

With migration in full swing in autumn, a continuous stream of birds passes through. In addition to curlew sandpipers, little stints and ruffs, you may also see a rare visitor from North America on the Scrape. During October, the red deer rut is the highlight of the heath.

An exciting events programme includes family activities, guided walks and 4×4 safaris.
