Bring your dog to Suffolk with you – she’ll be delighted with the space she has to roam around, searching out pheasants and rabbits or splashing on the beach. We also have oodles of pet friendly pubs, restaurants, hotels and accommodation and many events throughout the Summer that welcome, or are aimed specifically at Dogs and their owners.

Where to stay

A lot of pubs in Suffolk accept dogs and also many B&B’s and hotels – some may have restrictions on where dogs are allowed but there are lots of options to choose from, just browse our guide to dog friendly places to stay in Suffolk.

Where to eat

We all know that our furry friends would be happy with a big bone for dinner and many local butchers will be happy to supply one, probably free or for a nominal charge. Or try one of Suffolk’s fantastic Farmers Markets, plenty of treats there for you and your best friend! However, if you need a well earned rest, then see our guide to Dog friendly pubs and restaurants. There’s plenty to choose from and most have lovely big beer gardens, cosy fires in the winter, and lots of friendly locals to sniff. Many are on the coast and all are surrounded by our fantastic Suffolk countryside where walks are in abundance.

What to do

Several village fetes incorporate dog shows during the summer so keep an eye out for these. They may not be Crufts but they are a lot of fun for all the family. There might be prizes for the owner that looks most like her dog (or vice versa) plus Most Lovable hound, Best of Heinz 57 Breed etc See our listing of Suffolk Fetes and Fairs for details, and What’s on in Suffolk for a listing of events taking place in Suffolk during your holiday.

One annual event to look out for is Suffolk Dog Day, featuring shows, classes and competitions. This is a fantastic fund-raiser for The Suffolk Foundation so the charity can help voluntary groups and organisations throughout the county. Held at the stunning Helmingham Hall in July this is a great event for the dog lover, not to be missed.
For full details and to book tickets please see www.suffolkdogday.com

Of course a trip to Suffolk wouldn’t be complete without a frolic in the sea and a game of fetch on the sand! Many of our beaches allow dogs to roam all year round (including the beautiful town Southwold). See where Suffolk’s dog friendly beaches are here.

So far the annual doggy fashion show held by Harrods, Pet-a-Porter, hasn’t quite reached Suffolk, and I haven’t heard of any doggy weddings in the county yet, but watch this space!
