Craft Beer Brewing Course
A one-day skills based brewing course.
Spend the day working with our head brewer. He started as a home brewer and learnt how to use artisan knowledge and skills to produce craft beer. Scaling up from small batch brewing, artisan methods continue to form the basis of skills now used to produce commercial award-winning beers. The microbrewery now uses equipment that can produce 5 brewers’ barrels. With hands on experience in home and, commercial brewing and as a university lecturer in biological sciences, there are many avenues for you to explore in the brewing process. Yes, it is about the grain and the hops, but don’t forget the yeast!
You will spend the day “with your sleeves rolled up” getting involved in and/ or discussing the following;
Water preparation – steeping of the grain, sparging and boiling, transferring wort to the fermenter, dry hopping and maturation of beer. Other aspects can be explored such as bottling, casking, kegging etc, it will be up to you.
At the end of the day you should have an experience-based understanding of how to set up for a brew at home or in a commercial microbrewery. You will also be given a detailed handbook to take away with you, covering the main topics discussed in the course, and useful references.
Course times 10:00 – 16:00.
Lunch will be provided from the Tapas restaurant next door.
You can also sample cask, keg and bottled beers as available.
We also have all grain home brew kits 5L, should you wish to make our beers, at home. These can be purchased from the brewery, or we can post them to you.
