Steam Sunday

Steam Sunday: Experience Vintage Power in Suffolk!

Join us for Steam Sunday on the 2nd Sunday of every month (3rd Sunday in October).

Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of our working steam traction engine, the Empress of Britain, as our volunteers use steam coal to bring it to life.

Built in 1912 by the Thetford firm of Charles Burrell and Sons, the Empress spent its working life hauling heavy loads and providing power on the farm. Since joining the museum collection, the engine has been used for chaff cutting, threshing and driver training days.

Meet the volunteer team who care for the engine and find out what they’re up to as you marvel at this wonderful machine!

Please note, this is a volunteer and weather-dependent activity.

Included in museum entry.
